It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Swiss Embassy in Mexico and Belize. Since my arrival in Mexico City, I have been excited by the opportunity to get to know this fascinating country and, together with my team, to continue strengthening the close and diverse ties that bind Switzerland and Mexico.
My arrival also coincides with a very special moment: this year, Switzerland and Mexico are celebrating 80 years of diplomatic relations. This anniversary gives us the opportunity to look back and recognize a long history of exchange and cooperation, but also to look toward the future. Next year, we will also celebrate 200 years of consular relations between Switzerland and Mexico. This long history demonstrates the depth and continuity of the ties between our two countries.
Switzerland and Mexico maintain a friendly relationship based on mutual respect, shared values, and numerous ties between our societies. Our collaboration is broad and diverse: it spans politics, the economy, science, innovation, education, and culture. At the same time, our two countries face significant global challenges, particularly in the areas of environmental protection, sustainable development, human rights, and the rule of law.
As Ambassador, I wish to continue strengthening dialogue with our Mexican partners and creating new opportunities for collaboration. For me, direct contact is essential: with Mexican authorities, with representatives from the business, academic, and cultural sectors, with civil society, and, of course, with the many Swiss citizens living in Mexico and Belize or visiting these countries.
Switzerland is also present in Belize and maintains close ties with its partners and friends there. The Swiss Embassy in Mexico is responsible for providing consular services to the Swiss community in Belize. Our honorary consulate plays an important role as a point of contact and helps maintain ties between Switzerland and Belize while raising the profile of our presence in the country.
I would like to take this opportunity to listen, exchange ideas, and work with our Mexican partners on initiatives that will help further deepen our relationship, as we envision new forms of partnership together.
